Prohlášení Jerzyho Buzka ke Světovému dni boje proti AIDS
U příležitosti Světového dne boje proti AIDS (1. prosince) připomenul předseda Evropského parlamentu Jerzy Buzek, že tato tragická nemoc postihla již více než 33,2 milionu lidí na celém světě. Podle Buzka je třeba celé řady opatření k prevenci, léčbě, podpoře či péči o nemocné. Vyzval členské státy, aby přijaly nařízení, která zamezí diskriminaci osob nemocných HIV/AIDS. Jerzy Buzek také připomněl loňské usnesení Evropského parlamentu o včasné diagnóze a léčbě AIDS, jehože text naleznete v příloze.
Speaking on the occasion of World AIDS Day on 1 December the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek said:
"HIV/AIDS is a tragic disease affecting a growing number of people around the world. UNAIDS estimates, around 2.3 million people were living with HIV in Europe alone at the end of 2008. 33.4 million people living with HIV worldwide."
We need a firm political commitment to increase the resources to fight against it. We need a range of measures aimed at prevention, treatment, support and care."
In the resolution adopted by the European Parliament in November 2008, the Parliament calls on the Council and the Commission to formulate a strategy on HIV to:
- promote early diagnosis and reduction of barriers to testing;
- ensure early care and communication of the benefits of earlier care;
EP President Jerzy Buzek stated: "The European Parliament calls on the Member States to enact provisions which effectively outlaw discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS, including restrictions that impact on their freedom of movement within their jurisdictions.
The Member States should step up information and education campaigns on the prevention, testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
The European Union must channel its efforts into tackling this disease and its devastating consequences."
